Santander extends eligibility for Zero Current Account

Monday, 01 March 2010 12:00

Spanish banking giant Santander has announced that it is to extend the eligibility criteria for the UK's first fee-free current account.

From March 8th, the product will be available to customers with an investment product with the lender or those who open one, as well as to consumers who hold a mortgage with the firm.

The move means that six out of ten UK current account holders could qualify for fee-free banking.

Vim Maru, director of retail products at Santander, said that the initiative is evidence of the bank's innovative approach to business.

"Extending the eligibility to allow many more people access to fee-free banking is another example of our new approach; one based on simplicity: the more business you do with us, the more we will offer you in return," he added.
