Leeds Building Society: ISAs remain popular

People are still opting for ISAs as a savings method despite a number of individuals being unsure about changes to the allowance for the next tax year.

Research conducted by Leeds Building Society revealed that 95 per cent of people who took part held a cash ISA.

The survey also found the full tax-free allowance for 2010-11 had been invested by 69 per cent of participants, while 60 per cent knew the maximum sum they could put in to their nest egg this year.

In comparison, just 26 per cent knew the investment limit for 2011-12 was increasing to £5,340.

Leeds Building Society's sales and marketing director Kim Rebecchi suggested it was surprising to see that many customers did not know how much they were permitted to save.

"We know from our own experience that ISAs are very popular and it is no surprise that 95 per cent of people hold this type of account," she added.
