Halifax, voted the best student banking provider in 2010 by Your Money for the fourth consecutive year, has unveiled the terms of its new student account for 2011.

The Halifax Student Current Account offers an interest free overdraft of up to £3,000 for five years, plus an extra year after graduation.

Customers will also get a Visa Debit Card, a 25 per cent discount on AA breakdown cover and free 24-hour telephone and online banking.

Available from August 18th, the account also entitles holders to commission-free foreign currency and traveller's cheques.

Jeremy Cross, director of personal current accounts for Halifax, said: "The Halifax Student Current Account continues to offer students real long term value as an alternative to up front offers. With one of the most generous interest free overdrafts available, the potential savings over a three or four-year degree are considerable."
